Nail The Mix is an online education platform dedicated to modern metal. That’s a fancy way of saying that if you want to learn how to be a bad-ass metal mixer, you’re in the right place.
Whether you’re chasing your first killer guitar tone or delivering a finished album to the label, Nail The Mix is where it happens.
Our story
Nail The Mix is part of URM Academy, which was founded by producers Eyal Levi, Joey Sturgis and Joel Wanasek. Combined, they’ve produced, engineered, mixed and mastered 100+ albums by bands like The Devil Wears Prada, Attila, The Contortionist, The Black Dahlia Murder, Of Mice & Men, Asking Alexandria, Ice Nine Kills, Machine Head, and dozens more.
Separately, they’d built companies to help the next generation of metal producers learn the craft like Joey Sturgis Tones, Drumforge, and Eyal’s work with CreativeLive. And after crossing paths a few times over the years and realizing how much they had in common they decided to join forces, and in 2015, URM Academy was born.
Here’s how Nail The Mix works:
Raw multi-tracks from world class artists
At the beginning of every month, you’ll download the original raw multi track session for a new song so you can drop it into your DAW and learn by mixing it from scratch.
Some of our past guests include the very best in rock and metal like Will Putney, Jens Bogren, Tom Lord-Alge, Buster Odeholm, Adam “Nolly” Getgood, and David Bendeth plus artists like Gojira, Meshuggah, Opeth, Lamb Of God, Nickelback, Fall Out Boy, Periphery and dozens more.
Livestreaming mix sessions
At the end of the month, you’ll get access to a livestream where the original mixer will go through it from start to finish, show how they did it on the album, and answer your questions live on the air.
Mixing competitions
You can also submit your mix to the monthly mixing competition where the top voted entry will win sick prizes like mics, preamps, plugins, guitars and more. It’s an opportunity to get cool gear with your mixing skills and also see how you stack up compared to your friends.
