About This Session
One of the heaviest, most ferocious tracks in Chelsea Grin’s catalog, “S.H.O.T” from the *Evolve* EP stands as a benchmark in the deathcore genre for its surgical precision, relentless brutality, and monster production. This track captures Chelsea Grin at a pivotal moment, blending technical deathcore with cinematic layering, breakdown-driven composition, and hyper-aggressive vocal performance. It’s a masterclass in managing sheer sonic intensity without sacrificing clarity or impact.
Mixed by Eyal Levi (Daath, Whitechapel, Misery Index), this Nail The Mix session walks you through the mixing decisions behind the track at Audiohammer Studios. Known for crafting brutally tight and clear extreme metal productions, Eyal breaks down his process for handling one of the densest mixes in the genre—managing blistering tempos, heavily processed multi-layer vocals, and razor-sharp guitar work while creating space and width in a hostile frequency spectrum.
Expect to dive deep into advanced drum comping and editing at 250+ BPM, highly aggressive bass distortion workflows, meticulous automation around vocal FX chains, and movement strategies for dealing with layered guitar chugs underneath blast beats. The mix pushes dynamics to the edge without breaking the mix-wide tonal balance, making it a great case study in saturation, transient shaping, and top-down mixing approaches for extreme genres.
Download the full multitracks and challenge yourself to bring order to the chaos. Whether you’re refining your deathcore chops or looking to expand your strategies for mix clarity under extreme conditions, this is a session that earns its place in your template folder.
